The Brooklyn Nets season ended in disappointment for fans and the team. Not only did they undergo injury and player issues throughout the season, but the roster also failed to come together in the end. However, looking at Kyrie Irving and his recent statement, there still might be some hope for the team going ahead.

While Kevin Durant has tried to carry the team this entire season, Kyrie Irving was able to return towards the end. Ultimately, the team lost their Round 1 series (4-0) to the Boston Celtics. Naturally, many fans started discussing some trade possibilities for Irving.

Irving, on his end, seems to have no intention of leaving the Brooklyn Nets.

Following the loss against the Celtics, Irving was asked about his time with the team. The 2016 NBA Champion was sure of one answer: he is here to stay with Kevin Durant.

“When I say I’m here with Kev, I think that it really entails us managing this franchise together alongside Joe and Sean and just our group of family members that we have in our organization,” Irving said.

As per the 30-year-old, it is not just about him and Durant anymore. More people are involved and need to be taken into account. Irving even spoke about the Nets making the correct offseason moves, devoid of any influence from the outside. “Sometimes I feel like the noise on the external world or outside noise can seep in, and, you know, I’m not the type of person to allow that to happen”. 

How did fans react?

While some fans expect a proper return for the Nets, many compared the situation to the Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers. As per fans, Irving had also promised not to leave the Cavaliers and the Celtics. Eventually, Irving ended up in Brooklyn.

At the end of the day, Irving has stated that he does not plan on going anywhere. He even mentioned his extension, reiterating what he spoke otherwise. Unfortunately, no move in the NBA can be predicted completely. Players can leave on short notice, or go on to spend years with the same team.
