Magic Johnson is right when he says LeBron James is currently the front-runner in the MVP race. Even at 36 years of age, James is showing that he is one of, if not the best player in the NBA.
Currently, James is averaging 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists for the season. His play has been crucial for the Lakers with him improving other members of the team.
LeBron, who won his first league MVP in 2009, finds himself in the MVP conversation almost every season. After his 2009 triumph, he went on to win three of the next four league MVP titles, only missing out in 2011 to Derrick Rose.

However, since 2014, James has not won an MVP title, despite being one of the best players in the league consistently. Many have attributed this to voter fatigue towards James as it becomes tiring to see the same player consistently win the MVP accolade. However, few can deny that James has been excellent on a regular basis.
Last season, James was a top contender for the MVP. However, he was snubbed for Giannis Antetokounmpo who was awarded his second consecutive MVP title.

James was unhappy with the snub as less than 20 journalists voted him as number one on their ballot. He used that motivation to lead the Lakers to the chip and won Finals MVP in the process.
