Irrespective of whether someone is a basketball fan or not, Michael Jordan is a name that resonates with millions around the world. He was a star even before he made his debut in the NBA. Playing for the University of North Carolina basketball team, MJ made a name as one of the hottest prospects in the league.
However, it was not easy for him while growing up. During an interview once, Jordan talked about his hardships and also revealed that he faced racism. Sadly, as a result of the same, he developed a negative attitude, which changed for the good.

NBA legend Michael Jordan touches upon racism
Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan is as big as a star can get. During his time in the NBA, he was known worldwide for his exploits on the court and for his aura off it.
Talking in an interview, Jordan touched upon his experience with racism. He said, “I was fifteen. It was a very tough year. I was really rebelling. I considered myself a racist at that time. Basically, I was against all white people.” This was after a young girl used a derogatory term on him.

In the same interview, Michael Jordan revealed his true intentions behind not endorsing Harvey Gantt. Gantt was running for senate in North Carolina and MJ was expected to support a fellow black public figure. However, his silence on Gantt brought in a lot of backlashes.

MJ said, “I got criticized for not endorsing Harvey Gantt, the black guy who was running for the Senate against Jesse Helms in North Carolina. I chose not to because I didn’t know of his achievements, I didn’t know if he had some negative things against him.“
Interestingly enough, a few years ago, he made major headlines with his actions. The 6 time NBA champion announced that, along with his brand, he will donate $100 million over the next 10 years in order to fight racism.
