The world of journalism is ending the year on a grievous note with the loss of an icon. Earlier in the day, the news broke that one of the pioneers of journalism, Barbara Walters (93) has passed away. Walters was one of the first female news anchors the world ever got to see and she soon became a household name across America and beyond. As the world is coming to terms with her demise, Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently relayed his thoughts on her passing.

Barbara Walters’ publicist recently published a statement that stated that Walters was surrounded by her loved ones as she left the world peacefully. It read, “She lived her life with no regrets. She was a trailblazer not only for female journalists but for all women.”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar took to Twitter to talk about the iconic journalist. While highlighting her fearless approach to the profession, he wrote, “Barbara Walters never flinched when questioning the world’s most powerful people. She held them accountable.”

Walters’ passion for being true and upholding the values of journalism shined through her 50-year-long career. The NBA Legend pointed out Walters’ power of caring for the truth. It was a power that “made us (the world) care too”. The value she added to journalism is unparalleled. The Los Angeles Lakers legend added, “We are all better off because of her.”
