NBA commissioner Adam Silver was in the firing line of major allegations made by NBA player and human rights activist, Enes Kanter Freedom. Having been a controversial figure throughout his career, Enes decided to go in on Silver and the NBA. He said that they are forcing him to retire due to his tendency to openly speak his mind.
Having last played for the Boston Celtics in February 2022, Kanter said he has been blackballed from the league. He called Silver a hypocrite for forcing him to retire after Silver had given him his backing for speaking his mind. He believes his time in the league is up as teams will want to stay away from him.

Enes has been very vocal about the human rights violations in Turkey and China. He accused the league of prioritizing their relationship with China over people’s lives. The NBA has a massive market in China and they make a lot of money from it. “They stand up for things until it affects their money or business,” Enes said.

Kanter changed his name to Freedom after becoming a citizen of the United States. He has previously criticized LeBron James for not speaking up against human rights violations. He said that as the face of the NBA, James has a responsibility to speak up against wrongdoings in the world.
Kanter believes someone needs to speak up and bring awareness to people about human rights violations. He said, “Human rights is above politics, so I’m going to do whatever I can to bring awareness and be the voice of all the innocent people who don’t have a voice.”
