‘Nerd’ Stephen Curry, Who Graduated to Avoid Being Embarrassed by Daughter, Got Mocked by Warriors Teammates in 2011

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is now a holder of a bachelor’s degree. After leaving Davidson College in 2009 to play in the NBA, Curry took up his remaining classes this year and he graduated in a solo ceremony. And one of the reasons he did this was to avoid getting embarrassed by his daughter. But this journey has not been as smooth, as his Warriors teammates mocked him back in 2011 for attending classes, even calling him a nerd.
Back in 2011, the NBA experienced a lockout. And thus there were no games from July to December. This allowed NBA players to take up things that they usually couldn’t have had the time to do so. And Warriors star Curry decided to go back to Davidson College and attend some classes.

Stephen Curry was made fun of by his teammates for going back to college
When Stephen Curry returned to college in 2011, it was a completely different experience. He walked into class and he had no clue about his classmates. That is because his classes were generally small when he was studying the first time around, and this wasn’t the case anymore. And one of the reasons was that a lot of these students enrolled on campus because of what the basketball team did.

But his teammates were not impressed by him going to class. He said, “A lot of them are joking on me, being the nerd of the group. … I’m not sure anyone else has been in this situation before, so it’s hard to find someone to talk about it.”

Curry did manage to finish his degree, but it has taken some time. That’s cause Curry went on to become one of the best players in the league, making it to six NBA Finals in eight years. He has won four titles, two MVP awards, and a Finals MVP award so far in his already illustrious career.

And he has undoubtedly transformed the game of basketball. He is arguably the greatest shooter that this game has ever seen. And he has gone from a potential star to one of the greatest to ever do it. And he completed his degree this off-season and kept his promise to his coach and his family.
