The legend of Kobe Bryant exceeds much beyond the basketball court. The Mamba had a 20-year career which made him one of the best players of all time. Scoring over 30000 points and winning 5 championships, he was a massive revolution for basketball. However, he was also an advocate for women’s sports.

Bryant’s efforts changed the way people looked at the women’s sports sector. However, there are also generational athletes who paved the way. Notably, Brittney Griner was the woman who came in as the change. Currently fighting the battle for her life in Russia, Griner is one of WNBA’s biggest stars. Speculation of a prison swap continues as the USA tries to bring her home.

The WNBA has been behind her since Griner’s detention. And for good reason. She changed the game forever with her massive size. There was also a time she met up with the Lakers’ great, Kobe.

How Brittney Griner matches up with Kobe Bryant

Bryant is regarded as one of the most skilled shooting guards of all time. A relentless worker, the Mamba worked to perfect his craft. However, size was never an advantage for him standing at 6’6″. One player who did defy the odds with height is Griner.

She was deemed to be the coming best player with a 6’9″ frame. A photo, of Kobe and her, shows the former WNBA DPOY tower, the 5-time champion. Griner brought excitement to her as she owns the most dunks in WNBA history.

On the other hand, Kobe was responsible to spread awareness. He spoke highly about the players and wanted to create a platform. Kobe once said players such as Taurasi and Maya Moore could even play in the NBA.

In addition, he opened up the ‘Mamba Sports Foundation’ to provide equal opportunities for women in sports. His own daughter, Gianna Bryant, aimed to become a WNBA star one day. However, Kobe’s legacy was taken away from the world, too soon. And for Griner, her toughest phase continues with each passing day.
