Notably, as a proud father, Magic Johnson recently opened up about his son’s influential work.

EJ (30) came out as gay to his parents when he was 17 years old and came out publicly in 2013. Though his mother supported his decision, it took a while for his father to embrace his choice. However, EJ went on to become a popular figure in Hollywood after his reality show, Rich Kids of Beverly, in 2019. Ever since, EJ has taken his role as LQBTQIA+ representative seriously.

In a recent interview with People, Magic Johnson opened up about his thoughts on his son’s commendable work towards the LQBTQIA+ community. One of the major issues faced by the community is coming out to their parents. Many teenagers struggle to open up to their parents and end up suffering in silence. EJ Johnson took this matter into his own hands and started providing advice to the youngsters. Magic Johnson stressed on his son’s inspiring voice and said, “He’s saving a lot of people’s lives and people don’t even know, and I’m so proud of him.”

Magic Johnson’s initial reaction to his son’s sexuality

In an interview, Cookie Johnson revealed her husband’s instant reaction to his son’s sexuality. Magic Johnson exploded with a stern reaction upon hearing the news. However, Cookie later had a talk with the legend and made him understand. She said, “I was very angry with him when he did that…And I told him so that night because, you know, this is who you are and there was no reason to make you feel bad about it.” Eventually, the couple embraced their son for his choice.
