The Boston Celtics have topped the East after beating Miami in 7 games. So far, the Celtics’ journey has been amazing. They have beaten the reigning champs and the 2020 runner-ups. Not only that, but their trio, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart have improved on their chemistry.

The entire roster has done well, but one of their guards stands out. Tatum, Brown, Williams, and Pritchard have done well from the outside, though their defense is handled by one man. Boston had been bouncing around the second and third rounds of the playoffs for the past few years. This year they finally broke the chain and made it to the Finals after 12 years.

Marcus Smart is the most important player for the Celtics

It took Boston 7 games to beat both the Bucks and the Heat. They fell short defensively in the middle of the series but came back strong. The energetic presence of Marcus Smart on the team gives the roster a confidence boost. Smart is active defensively and never gives up the transition. Apart from that, Marcus has averaged 15 points and 6 assists.

Sue Bird believes Smart is the guy who wins playoff games for Boston. “But yeah I think Marcus Smart is probably … we can talk about Jayson Tatum, we can talk about Jaylen Brown obviously, but Marcus Smart is that player where you’re like… they win you playoff games. It’s that grindy piece.”, said Bird.

Smart may not be that good of a scorer, but he can hold the team together. Versus the Warriors, Smart will play a vital role to break the Dubs’ offense. This will be Smart’s first Finals, but since the past few postseasons, Marcus has been improving as a leader. The whole Celtics roster doesn’t have experience in playing the Finals, though this team looks more ready than ever before.

The Warriors are going to play their 6th NBA Finals in the last 7 years and with that amount of experience, they will have surprises planned for the Celtics. Though after beating all three rivals, Boston is even more confident. The Finals game 1 will tip-off on the 2nd of June.
