Michael Jordan and Dennis Rodman are two of the greatest names in NBA history. Their ferocious playstyle and brilliance on the court compliment the Bulls’ red jersey. Michael Jordan is now acknowledged as a brilliant businessman, athlete, and an inspiration to many other legends. However, there was a time when Rodman’s popularity eclipsed Jordan’s.
Rodman’s life, like his career, has been described as colorful. Jordan was on one side, making headlines with his incredible performance. Rodman, on the other hand, was surrounded by controversies. Jordan was once baffled by Rodman’s fame in Chicago. Rodman spoke about the incident in an interview.

Back in 2019, in an interview with ESPN, Rodman narrated the story. The interviewer opened the conversation by saying, “you said there was a time when you were probably more famous than Michael.” Rodman chuckled and said, “Michael getting a laugh and said he is probably right,” and said Michael was blown up to witness Rodman’s fan base.

Everyone in the industry agrees with it. Rodman attracted a lot of attention in the mid-’90s due to his controversies, quirky fashion sense, and on-court domination. Later in the interview, Rodman recalled, he was listening to a downtown traffic report on the radio. The reporter says, “when you get to 94 and Arden it’s clear delay because there’s Dennis Rodman billboard right there on the exit and people are stopping by and taking pictures.”
Rodman was overwhelmed when he heard the announcement. He was not done yet, he shared another incident when he was driving and people came out of their cars on a freeway to take pictures of him. Rodman was like “wow! this is crazy.” His popularity in Chicago was self-evident. It didn’t take long for Rodman to out shadow other Chicago Bulls legends, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen in Chicago.
