Nets News: Kyrie Irving Feels the Team Needs More than Just Kevin Durant to Compete

After two consecutive losses to contenders Utah Jazz and Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving admitted that the team needs more to compete deep in the season.
“I mean, it’s transparent. It’s out there. It’s glaring, in terms of the pieces that we need in order to be at that next level,” Irving was quoted as saying by ESPN after the game against Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday at Wells Fargo Center. “I’m going to continue to reiterate it. We’re going to do the best with the guys that we have in our locker room now, and we’ll worry about all the other stuff, in terms of moving pieces and everything else, as an organization down the line in the summer.”
The Nets had signed Irving from Boston Celtics in the pre-season along with Kevin Durant from Golden State Warriors. The signings have significantly strengthened the side, but Irving felt the team needs to add one or two more players to be competitive.

“Collectively, I feel like we have great pieces, but it’s pretty glaring we need one more piece or two more pieces that will compliment myself, (Kevin Durant), DJ (DeAndre Jordan), GT (Garret Temple), Spence (Dinwiddie), Caris (LeVert), and we’ll see how that evolves,” he said.

Kyrie Irving did not feature for most of the season
Although the Nets had made two All-Star signings, they have played most of the season so far without either of them. While Durant was already expected to be out for the season, Irving suffered a shoulder injury within a month into the season. He came back from injury a week back against Atlanta Hawks and immediately made an impact.

The Nets also have several other key players out with injury, the most recent one being DeAndre Jordan. Irving felt that it was something the team had signed up for before the start of the season when Durant was already known to be out for the season.
