DeMarcus Cousins Could Make a Comeback During Playoffs, Says Frank Vogel

DeMarcus Cousins teaming up with Anthony Davis created a dynamic duo when the former joined the New Orleans Pelicans. However, it didn’t last too long. Cousins suffered torn Achilles in February 2018 leading to season-ending injury. His teammates competed in the playoffs without him.

Against the odds, Cousins hit free agency in 2018. He signed with the Golden State Warriors with a veterans minimum salary. The Warriors scored a major coup signing him. Their starting five consisted of five NBA All-star players. They were favourites to win the 2018-19 title. 

Unfortunately on 15th April 2019 first-round playoff series against Clippers, Cousins faced a severe torn Quadriceps. His return to the team for the remainder of the playoffs was questionable. Through hard work, Cousins was declared fit for the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.

DeMarcus Cousins entered free agency in the summer of 2019. Teams and himself were unsure if he could regain his All-star calibre form that had seen him emerge as a force during his time with the Sacramento Kings and the Pelicans.

However, the rebuilding Los Angeles Lakers needed support. With Anthony Davis and LeBron James leading the Purple and Gold, they a capable supporting cast for a title run. A now fit Cousins signed another veterans minimum contract with the Lakers.

DeMarcus Cousins and his enduring injury blight

The 2019-2020 NBA season from Lakers perspective was going to be huge. Anthony Davis and LeBron James were leading a talented roster. As title favourites heading into the season, Cousins had another opportunity to showcase his talents during the post-season.

Things were not to be. During his summer workouts, Cousins tore the ACL in his left leg. It ruled him out indefinitely, with him expected to miss the season.

Surprisingly, the Lakers did not cut him from their roster. Now that decision might serve them well.

During All-Star Game press talk, Frank Vogel gave a glimpse of good news when he proposed a possibility of seeing Cousins during playoffs which something NBA official doctors were worried about the season-ending injury. As per Yahoo Sports, Vogel commented:

“He’s on track to get healthy by the playoffs, and we’ll have to see where he’s at with rhythm and conditioning and timing and all that stuff,” Vogel said. “But there’s a possibility he returns this season, yes,”

It would be interesting to see how the Rehab works for Cousins and wait till he is back on the court.
