The slam dunk contest is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) competition held during the NBA All-Star Weekend. The very first slam dunk contest was won by Larry Nance Sr. of the Phoenix Suns at the 1984 NBA All-Star Game. The current champion of the NBA Dunk Contest is Hamidou Diallo of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Howard, 34, has been a three-time participant (2007-2009), and won the contest in 2008 with his famous ‘Superman Dunk’. Dwight Howard is since christened, the Superman.

Dwight Howard & his magical 2008 win:

On February 16, 2008, Howard removed his Orlando Magic jersey to reveal another jersey underneath. This had the superman logo right in the center. The crowd went crazy but the dramatics were yet to come. A red cloth was tied around his neck. Dwight went on to amaze the crowd by scoring a strong “superman” flush which made that All-star night the most memorable one for NBA fans and Howard alike.
