The ongoing season is the 15th for Williams who made his NBA debut in 2005. He initially played seven seasons with Atlanta Hawks after they drafted him with the second overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft. He was later traded to Utah Jazz where he spent two seasons before joining Charlotte Hornets.
In his sixth season for the Hornets, Williams stayed through the mid-season trade window but opted for a waive later- making himself a target for the teams in contention for the playoffs. The Bucks released Dragan Bender from their roster to sign Marvin Williams. They will pay him a minimum salary of $956,348 for the final 66 days of the regular season- an amount he would have earned with the Hornets.

For the 2019/20 season, Williams has averaged 6.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 41 games with the Hornets while shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.6% from three. With the Bucks, Williams isn’t expected to get much game time and might have to limit himself to sporadic appearances off the bench.

“I’d Rather Be On The Same Team As Giannis Than Play Against Him. He certainly makes things difficult. Whenever he and I compete, that’s a big matchup for me. So, I am glad that I don’t have to worry about that anymore,” Williams said after making his move to Milwaukee.
