The Chicago Bulls look set to rebuild their team all over again. Ever since the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Bulls have tried to have a young core.

This young core was led by Zach LaVine, who came to the Bulls in the Butler trade. He has since shown continuous improvement at the helm of the Bulls, but the team’s lack of ambition has held him back.

The Bulls are looking ahead of their young star to extend their rebuild process around Coby White and Lauri Markannen. With the possible inklings of a trade on the horizon, LaVine should get ahead of the 8-ball and demand a trade himself.

LaVine demanding a trade helps his case. He can diminish his value as an asset, making it easier for other teams to trade for him. The Bulls will look at future assets rather than stars that impact them right now. Teams like the Nets can offer the Bulls a few picks and expiring contracts to leave the Bulls room for future free agency. It works for them, as they are trying to maximize the Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving tandem. The Knicks have some valuable picks, and offering even one or two of them will make landing LaVine easy.

With possible trading partners available, here are three reasons why LaVine should demand a trade.

Chicago Bulls losing their star guard?

  • Jim Boylen

LaVine and coach Jim Boylen do not like each other. This isn’t a theory, there is video evidence of this. LaVine definitely does not appreciate Boylen as his coach. Considering the new Bulls front office are yet to remove Boylen from his position, it seems like he will stay on with the team. If LaVine has to be discontent playing for Boylen, it is a lose-lose. The coach has an insubordinate player and the player is frustrated at having a coach who doesn’t understand him. LaVine could get away from Boylen and flourish somewhere else.

  • The team isn’t suited to his style of play

LaVine is a fast guard who can perform well in every offensive aspect of the game. He is an explosive finisher at the rim and is a great three-point shooter. However, the Bulls lineup cannot really give him any help. Most of the players are defensively inept. They have blown large leads due to their poor defense, with LaVine shouldering his offensive load with almost 26 points a game this season. Players like Markannen, White, Otto Porter, and others cannot make up for LaVine’s defensive failings. But they can’t produce at his level offensively either.

  • His progress at the team has stalled

Zach LaVine has been pegged as a ‘future all-star’ for quite a few years now. He came close this year, but how would he make it if Bradley Beal didn’t make it? It looks like he hit a ceiling with the Bulls which most people know is higher. LaVine’s potential can still be nurtured given the right system. In a scoring dominant league, LaVine is already a very valuable asset. If his untapped potential cannot be found at the Bulls, it can definitely be made the most of elsewhere, if he gets traded.
