LeBron James and Michael Jordan have both seen their names come up a lot in the last week. After LeBron won a fourth NBA Championship with the LA Lakers, everyone has been trying to see how he stacks up against Michael Jordan in the all-time rankings. While many take the side of LeBron, the player with better longevity, others still make a case for Jordan, a man undefeated in the NBA Finals in his prime.

NBA Insider for CBS Sports Tom Haberstroh spoke to Chicago Bulls Insider K.C. Johnson on the ‘Bulls Talk’ podcast and gave his opinion on the matter. (11:40)

“I don’t think winning a championship did much. I don’t think that changes the conversation because 6-0 is unassailable. You can’t compete with 6-0. LeBron James, if he wins a 6th title. The story will be ‘well it took 12 tries to get there’. I don’t think LeBron winning a title is gonna change the conversation appreciably.”

He adds that the only way LeBron can make a case for G.O.A.T. is with his versatility and longevity, two points that Bron seems to actually have a better shot at. 6-0 can’t be beaten when one has lost 6 titles, no matter how many he ends up winning.

LeBron James is still far behind Michael Jordan

LeBron James may be getting to the throne, but people do have a good argument for MJ still. That doesn’t imply that LeBron doesn’t have a strong argument himself. However, it all comes down to preferences. If you value what LeBron has provided for 17 years+  more than what MJ did in his unstoppable prime, then that’s fair. But valuing Jordan with the same intention is also fair.

LeBron is still active and could possibly win a few more championships in LA with Anthony Davis by his side. While it will never be 6-0, LeBron could still get to 6 titles if his team builds off this season’s success. Will they? That is something we will find out.
