Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been terrorizing defenses for almost two decades now. During his 17-year tenure, he has got the better of some of the best defenses in the league and has won four titles.

Bron is always the toughest assignment for the opposition, and the best wing defenders are always assigned to him. But even with that, he is still able to score on them or set up his teammates and walk away with the win. 2011 NBA champion Corey Brewer recently spoke about some of the toughest players to guard in the league, and #1 on the list was LeBron.

Brewer says LeBron is unstoppable, except when it comes to jump shots

In his article on Basketballnews.com, Brewer wrote:

“LeBron is a difficult guard just because he’s so smart. He does everything well. I always wanted him to take jump shots. If LeBron’s shooting jumpers on me, I’m actually happy because he’s unstoppable — really unstoppable — when he drives. He’s bailing me out if he’s taking the jump shot. It’s not that he can’t shoot. He can shoot; he’s improved his jumper. But I want him shooting the jump shot 100 percent of the time because when he drives to the rim, he’s scoring every single time or he’s gonna make a play for somebody else because his vision is amazing.”

Brewer added, “If I can make him shoot jumpers, I did my job. When he’s going to the rim — when he’s making plays for everybody else and getting his teammates involved — they’re gonna win 100 percent of the time.”

Can LeBron James continue his form into year 18?

According to Brewer, jump shots are the only way to stop LeBron. With him getting older, he cannot drive as fiercely as he could a few years back. He can still pull off some dangerous drives and get and-1s, but he doesn’t have the same ferocity now.

This can be seen in Bron’s three-point attempts per game. Last season he attempted 6.3 three-pointers per game, which was a career-high for him. Despite him shooting an unimpressive 34%, he still stuck to perimeter shooting.

There is no doubt that LeBron’s durability will help him play a few more seasons. The key will be to perform at the highest level so that the Lakers can still contend. With Anthony Davis alongside him, his physical burden is reduced. He will be able to play freely and hopefully take the Lakers to another title.
