Every player in the league remembers their ‘Welcome to the NBA’ moment. In the rookie season, the youngsters are reminded that they are new, and are embarrassed by veterans. Miami Heat rookie Tyler Herro recently spoke about his own experience recently during a SiriusXM NBA Radio session.
Herro said, “For me, before the season even started, we had come on the first day to play five-on-five. They threw me right in the fire and said I was guarding Jimmy (Butler) from day one. They made me guard him the whole day, and he guarded me and we were just going at it. Everybody was watching – the whole front office and everybody but just seeing them throw me in the fire like that was like ‘Yo, I’m here now.’ I had to hold my own and obviously we all know what Jimmy’s capable of, so it wasn’t an easy day.”
Last night a new group of players were officially welcomed to the NBA. Next up, their unofficial welcome to The Association. @raf_tyler reveals his "Welcome to the NBA" moment#kiak5 #nbpa @nbpa @kiamotorsusa pic.twitter.com/fgQ7uKKkyB

Tyler Herro: Learning from mentor Jimmy Butler
Later, Herro spoke about how when he joined, he was just following Jimmy Butler and was like his shadow during training. While many people have criticized Butler for supposedly being a locker room cancer, his relationship with Herro completely proves this wrong. He took Herro under his wing right from the start, and after training under Butler, Herro was one of the most impressive rookies of the season.

During his rookie season, Herro just started eight out of the 55 regular-season games. One can expect him to slide into that starting spot more often this season. Whenever he has played, he has shown maturity and the Heat will be keen to see more of that. They will once again fight for the NBA title, and Herro will play a big part in their campaign.
