Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel felt their superstar LeBron James should win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) this season.

James is in his 17th season in the NBA and has managed to be a top player at the age of 37. Vogel felt that his star man was the most impactful player on the roster.

“Nobody impacts winning more than LeBron James. I do believe that he should be MVP this year,” Vogel said (Via Dave McMenamin of ESPN).

LeBron James has four MVP awards to his name

James is already a four-time MVP and a three-time finals MVP. He won the award for two consecutive while playing with Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009 and 2010. After moving to Miami Heat, he once again won the award for two successive seasons in 2012 and 2013. He was also the NBA champion and finals MVP for those two seasons. He later had another stint with the Cavaliers before moving to Los Angeles Lakers in 2018.

James was alone in his first season in purple and gold. But a year later, as Anthony Davis joined him, and the duo started reviving a Lakers side that hasn’t won a title in the last 10 years.

In the process, James has, so far, led the league in assists with over 10 assists per game. He is among the names that have come up for the MVP award this season, along with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Antetokounmpo, Antetokounmpo, 25, is the reigning MVP and many believe he could win the award for the second successive season.

The race for NBA MVP award is over

While Antetokounmpo vs James might have been interesting once the season resumes, the race is no longer on. The league will not count the remainder of the season when calculating individual awards to make it a fair playing ground for players from each of the 30 teams.

“The decision to exclude seeding games from awards voting ensures a fair process in which players and coaches from all 30 teams will have the same opportunity to be honored as top performers for the regular season,” the NBA wrote in the memo to teams (Via Associated Press).
