The Golden State Warriors found luck in the 2020 draft lottery and received a top 3 pick in the draft for the first time since 2002. This time they hold the #2 overall pick in their hands, while every NBA fan is patiently waiting to see who will go #1 in the 2020 NBA Draft. As for the Warriors, they will pick the best player available in the list of talents, regardless of his playing style or position. 

Owing to a poor 2019/20 season, the Warriors are determined to make a strong comeback. They will have a fully fit Steph Curry and Klay Thompson raring to go, along with the potential talent that could join the team as the #2 pick in the 2020 draft. 

Head coach Steve Kerr realizes the value of the second pick and does not want to play any games with what he has in hand. Kerr recently connected on ‘95.7 The Game,’ where he put forth the importance of utilizing the #2 pick in the draft. 

“We need the best player available regardless of the position…rather than looking to fill out your lineup, you just take the best guy and sort everything else out later,” Kerr said. This does not come out as a surprise. The Warriors would look to capitalize on every way to get better. 

The Warriors topped the Western Conference four times in the last five years. However, when they return next season, it will be a different picture. The Lakers and the Clippers have increased their roster strength. These teams will certainly pose a tough challenge next year. Thus, selecting a top talent to shine as the team’s rookie is essential. 

Who should the Golden State Warriors pick in the draft? 

Three are three standout names in this year’s draft candidates. There’s obviously LaMelo Ball, who already has the exposure of playing in a professional league. Ball played for a year with the Illawarra Hawks in the NBL. 

But LaMelo’s father LaVar Ball may not be too pleased if the Warriors pick him up. This doesn’t come as a surprise, because LaVar wants his son to be an automatic starter wherever he goes.

Now, there are Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman left in the mix. Edwards is probably the most sought after talent, and ESPN drafted him at #1 in their mock version. The Georgia Bulldogs’ SG is undoubtedly a one for the future, for the talent that he possesses.  

However, Edwards will probably go #1, which will deny the Warriors a chance of signing him. Even if he gets passed on by the Minnesota Timberwolves at the top, we doubt if the Warriors would pick him. They are really in need of a solid center, and James Wiseman can be the answer to their troubles. 

If the 7’1” center can thrive with the Warriors, he’ll be a one to hold on to. The Memphis freshman has shown us his talents, but can he replicate it in the NBA with the Warriors? Here’s what he had to say on a recent episode of ESPN’s ‘The Jump’: 

“I feel like that’s a great fit, Wiseman said, talking about joining the Warriors. “I feel like playing with veteran players like them can help me develop my game quickly, but I can also just learn from them because they’ve been in the league for a really long time.”
