Did Michael Jordan Rush Up His Documentary Due to Lebron James Rising as the New GOAT?

Sports analyst Bill Simmons said that Michael Jordan did not feel the need to protect his legacy until LeBron James came into the picture.

Jordan initially wasn’t fully convinced that the documentary “The Last Dance” needed a release.  In an audio clip obtained from Twitter, Simmons said that Jordan was never a big fan of releasing the documentary. But when LeBron rose through the ranks and established himself on top of the NBA world, Jordan felt his legacy was in danger.

“The Last Dance” is a documentary that portrays the rise of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. In his journey to the top, Jordan took his team along with him. He led the Bulls to two three-peats- 1991-1993 and 1996-1998.

The Last Dance of Michael Jordan is releasing ahead of schedule

Currently, major sporting events around the world, including the NBA, are suspended because of the Coronavirus pandemic. As a result, basketball fans have been asking for the early release of Jordan’s documentary. ESPN paid heed, advancing the release of the 10-part documentary event.

ESPN has released a new trailer on Tuesday. Originally scheduled for June 23, The Last Dance will now release on April 19. The documentary will also be available on Netflix for international viewers.

“As society navigates this time without live sports, viewers are still looking to the sports world to escape and enjoy a collective experience. We’ve heard the calls from fans asking us to move up the release date for this series. And we’re happy to announce that we’ve been able to accelerate the production schedule to do just that,” ESPN said in a statement. “This project celebrates one of the greatest players and dynasties ever. And we hope it can serve as a unifying entertainment experience to fill the role that sports often play in our lives, telling a story that will captivate everyone, not just sports fans.”
