Former Nets Coach and Mavericks Assistant Coach Among the Potential Candidates for Chicago Bulls’ Vacancy

The Chicago Bulls have been stuck in mediocrity for quite some time now. They have a talented roster with players such as Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen, and Coby White, but they lack an excellent head coach to guide this team.
Jim Boylen was supposed to turn the franchise around, but on the contrary, things got pretty ugly. In his one and a half year stint at the Bulls, Boylen registered a record of 39-84. Moreover, Boylen knocked heads with his players on several occasions. As a result, he was sacked by the franchise with hopes of a better future for the team.
There is a common belief that he hindered the growth of Lauri Markkanen. Markkanen was putting up crazy numbers with his natural style of play. But it was Boylen who wanted him to shoot more threes. Lauri couldn’t fit into his new role, and his stats plummeted at an alarming rate.

Chicago Bulls’ search for a head coach continues
Now that Boylen is gone, the franchise needs to find a replacement before the 2020-21 NBA season. Although there are many options out there in the market, the Bulls cannot interview most of them right till the NBA postseason finishes.

However, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bulls have been granted permission to interview certain assistant coaches.
“Dallas Mavericks assistants Jamahl Mosley and Stephen Silas, Philadelphia’s Ime Udoka and one candidate — Minnesota associate head coach David Vanterpool — whose team didn’t qualify for the restart.

“The Bulls are also interviewing current assistant Chris Fleming and could also meet with assistant Roy Rogers — both remaining from former coach Jim Boylen’s staff,” he said.
Moreover, the Bulls can always target former Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson. The Nets organization fired Kenny as they wanted a new voice in the locker room. Atkinson is not a bad coach by any means. In fact, he might be a good suit for this emerging Bulls team.
Also, Clippers assistant coach Ty Lue is reportedly looking for a head coach job. The Bulls can interview him once the Clippers’ playoff run ends. Ty Lue already has championship experience courtesy of the 2016 Cavs title run. Furthermore, Lue has already shared a locker room with Nets star point guard Kyrie Irving.

Lastly, the Bulls could also opt for Jason Kidd, who is currently on Frank Vogel’s staff at the Lakers. Kidd’s deal is expiring at the end of the season, which might be the perfect time to negotiate with Kidd.
The Chicago Bulls also have the fourth pick in the 2020 NBA draft, which can be used to draft a decent enough player. This will definitely lure some high profile NBA coaches.
