Former Spurs Teammate Clears Air About his Relationship with Kawhi Leonard

Kawhi Leonard began his career with the San Antonio Spurs, he developed into a superstar under them. However, Leonard forced his way out of the team and left the team on bad terms.

After a devastating injury in the 2017 NBA Playoffs, Leonard believed the franchise mishandled his injury. Ultimately, the bond was beyond repair and led to the fallout between them.

However, Spurs legend Tony Parker, in a recent interview with The Ringer’s Ryen Russillo, said that he enjoyed playing with Kawhi till it lasted.

“Everybody is different. I only have good stuff to say about Kawhi. I had great years with him. We were playing unbelievable together. We won a championship together.

“So for me I feel very blessed I played with him all those years because he was very good for us. Then he decided to do something else and that’s everybody’s right.”

Parker further explained how the media tried to prove there was a rift between him and Kawhi.

“I have no problem with Kawhi Leonard. We never had an argument. When the journalist asked me if my injury was worse than Kawhi’s, I said yes because it was true.

“But that didn’t lessen the significance of his injury. He took over the franchise and I gave up the torch of the franchise willingly. It’s very sad that the media took one quote and made it sound like I didn’t want to play with him. He was the face of the franchise.”

If it weren’t for these misunderstandings, maybe Kawhi would still be wearing a Spurs uniform. But that is not the case, Leonard left those days behind him and is currently the leader of the Los Angeles Clippers.

This move was supposed to bring a change for the Clippers, but in their first season together it didn’t pan out that way. Both Leonard and George choked in a decisive Game 7 of the Western Semi-finals and blew a 3-1 lead.

Which not only crushed their hopes to advance to the Conference Finals but also robbed fans of a chance to witness the battle of LA. Maybe Kawhi and Co. can redeem themselves this year. What are your thoughts?
