The Golden State Warriors were once the talk of the town. And by town, we mean the entire NBA community. The franchise may still be in town, but no one is talking about them anymore. The Warriors’ journey this season was, unfortunately, one going down a cliff.

The real question on our minds: is the Golden era over?

The NBA community knew the Golden State Warriors as one of the best teams in the Western Conference. Unfortunately, the team doesn’t have that credibility anymore.

According to Fox Sports 1’s First Things First host, Nick Wright, the Golden State Warriors didn’t die suddenly. The team dropped down the leader board gradually. When asked if the team’s dynasty is over, Wright said,

“Unfortunately for my friends in the Bay Area (the Warriors), the answer is obviously and unequivocally yes. It didn’t end the moment Kevin Durant left. It was on life support when Klay tears his ACL, and Kevin Durant leaves.”

Here, Wright is referring to Klay Thompson‘s Achilles tendon injury, because of which the Warriors’ shooting guard was mostly off the court.

The Fox Sports analyst feels that trading D’Angelo Russell out was a mistake. He said, “They forfeited their one real ability to add another star, when they traded D’Angelo Russell in order to get Andrew Wiggins and a pick, that we would never get to see Steph Curry in the finals again.”

Wright reminded everyone that the Warriors owe Steph Curry $88 million over the next two years. Similarly, it owes Draymond Green and Klay Thompson $100 million and $165 million over the next four years, respectively.

Then, a disappointed Wright weighs the reality of the situation. “I thought Steph was gonna have a ‘Let me remind everyone how great I am’ season. Draymond Green looked really old, really fast, and we still haven’t seen Klay!”

The Warriors have dropped nine of their last 10 games. Due to this, we feel the Warriors may be tanking.

Are the Golden State Warriors ending their dynasty, just to revive it next season?

This season, major injuries benched the Splash Brothers (Steph Curry and Klay Thompson) for a long time. When Curry made a comeback, the season was suspended in just a few weeks because of COVID-19

The Golden State Warriors’ performance this season leads us to the speculation that the team might be tanking.

The term “tanking” regarding the NBA refers to when teams purposely lose in the short term. They do so with hopes to get better picks in the NBA draft that will help them win in the long term. In the NBA drafts, the team which loses the previous season gets to pick first.
However, if the team is looking to tank, they need to be lucky with the lottery pick. More importantly, they need Steph Curry and Klay Thompson back in their fittest forms. Now that Kevin Durant has left, they also need a very thought out pick from the lottery.
It seems like the comeback will be difficult. The Golden Era may not be over. However, it might not rejuvenate as soon as the next season starts either.  The team might go up the ladder, maybe get into the playoffs. Unfortunately, becoming a championship final contender might take them a while.
What’s worse for the team is that its star players are getting old. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, the Warriors’ top three players are all in their 30s now.

Suppose we say that the team takes two years to become a legitimate playoff contender again and another 2-3 years to regain its championship credibility. That would leave the team with veterans at its core when they make a real comeback.

Even though we hope Curry gets to rule the court again, the chances seem bleak for a real Golden State Warriors comeback. Only time will tell if the Bay State’s dynasty will be left for the history books or it will continue its reign.
