The 2020-21 NBA season will begin on December 22, with the smallest offseason in NBA history. For NBA players, this could cause problems, as this is the only time they have to rest themselves. LeBron James was among the prominent names who were strongly against starting the season so soon.

While healing is a major issue but there is something else that the players were looking up to- spending some quality time with their families on Christmas. James opened up about this in an interview.

Just being completely honest, I wasn’t expecting that because early conversations were going on and I was hearing that there would be kind of a mid-January start and training camp would kind of start after Christmas.

James wasn’t a part of the Lakers’ rotation in the pre-season as well. These extra days can help the king to heal his body and give his 100% at the beginning of the season.

We would have an opportunity to spend Christmas with our families. So, I had a break planned, a vacation with my family for us to go somewhere, which I haven’t been able to do, obviously, since I’ve been in the league. So, I had to switch up a lot of things once I heard the December 22nd start and with training camp starting, obviously, this week.”

Spending festivals with their families is something that NBA players cannot do much. But this year, they could have spent it with them, if the NBA offseason would have been extended for a little while.
