Houston Rockets backcourt of James Harden and Russell Westbrook are two of the most scrutinized players in the league. They won the MVP award back to back, with Westbrook winning it in 2017 and Harden in 2018. But a lot of critics still are not convinced by them. Westbrook is termed as a stat padder while Harden’s ability to win fouls is ridiculed and termed flopping.

However, Rockets GM Daryl Morey is enamored by his star players. On First Things First, Morey was asked if the Rockets are under pressure to win it all this season. He said, “(We’ve got) two of the greatest players ever on our team, we should win this thing.”

When asked about how their postseason would look this season, Morey said, “We have the most veteran team in the league. We had a second training camp that will help us more than most teams. Everyone on the Rockets, we’ve all got to that stage in our career where there’s one thing left and we’re all focused on it.”

No one is a bigger fan of James Harden than Morey himself. He expressed that multiple times on the show. “James Harden is going to go down as one of the greatest players of all time. It’s my job to help him. The fact that we haven’t won always does weigh on me.”

While speaking about the dynamic duo of Harden and Westbrook, Morey couldn’t stop praising his stars. “James Harden is a basketball genius. He sees things that I don’t see. It’s a partnership. And James and Russell also have a partnership. James, on the floor, is a thinker. … Russell is this amazing leader. He plays with passion and a chip. They’re a good partnership going into this restart.”

With the NBA season planning to start on 31st July, Harden and Westbrook will be two of the hungriest guys around. They have won the individual accolades, but the NBA ring has evaded them so far. They will be banking on their small-ball to surprise teams, but it will be interesting to see how they will perform against teams with strong centers like Nikola Jokic and Rudy Gobert.
