After retiring, several NBA players have resorted to becoming NBA Analysts. You can assume that it is their way of always holding on to their beloved game. What analysts do is that they discuss games, players, stats, and everything that is even remotely close to basketball.

One such analyst is Cleveland Cavaliers’, Kendrick Perkins. Ever since he became an analyst, Perkins has never shied away from voicing his judgments.

There have been times where people have criticized him for being too ‘over the top’ and you can count Blake Griffin to be one of them. Griffin recently shared his views about the bitter comments that Perkins made about his former teammate, Kevin Durant.

On GQ’s Drop-in Segment, Mark Anthony Green hosted an interview with the Detroit Pistons’ Blake Griffin. They went over a bunch of themes, but the most fascinating one was their discussion regarding Kendrick Perkins.

Mark began by easing into it and then stated, “It’s funny to see like Kendrick Perkins…” at this very moment you could see Griffin smirking. He continued, “Who was a great player, and is so critical of other players.”

Griffin’s facial expressions were enough to decipher what he was actually thinking about hearing this comment. Mark then asked a question in reference to the statement, “Does the insult feel different coming from an ex-player?”.

Griffin was seen giving it some thought and finally blurted, “I think it depends on the player. Like you know there are guys like Grant Hill who have done broadcasting and Chauncey Billups, who’s done games and does studio work. I had the privilege of playing with both of those guys and know them really well. Those two are some of the best guys. Their approach is different.”

Mike agreed and called Grant Hill the nicest guy, but Griffin said, “It sort of goes beyond that. It’s how they see the game. It’s how they view people in general. I think those two are unbelievable smart guys”.

He raved about how they don’t use their IQ to put somebody down and explained, “They don’t feel the need to make crazy statements and get this buzz going.  That being said you know some guys are just going to say some crazy stuff and it is what it is.”

This was a clear jab at the way Kendrick handles himself on camera.

His views on Kevin Durant and Kendrick Perkins relationship

Finally, answering Mike’s question, Griffin agreed that his comments hurt, and he brought in Kevin Durant who was constantly under Perkins’ radar of criticism.

He continued, “Man, you shared the court with him for so long. Like to me being a teammate extends past just being on the same team. And I’m like Ooh, this is not a great teammate. You’re just killing this dude for views later on in life.”

While Griffin may have a point but being such an asset to the NBA franchise, Perkins has earned the right to voice his thoughts freely and honestly. Even if it’s about his own teammate. What do you think?
