“I Want to Thank You for Standing Up”: Magic Johnson Writes Jeanie Buss an Emotional Letter for Speaking Out Against Racism

As the Los Angeles Lakers President, Jeanie Buss, received a harsh letter from a former Lakers fan, the community came to her rescue. After LeBron James’ support via Instagram stories, now NBA legend Magic Johnson addressed the letter, and Buss’ response to it, on Twitter.

Recently, Jeanie Buss, Los Angeles Lakers president, received a racist letter from a certain someone named Joe. The letter seemed to be written out of complete anger and hatred. Yet, Jeanie decided to speak up about it. She took to her social media and let her followers know that racism really does exist.

Jeanie shared the letter on Instagram and highlighted that such hatred against African-Americans exist in this time and age. She went on to question the undersigned Joe, about what he achieved by doing this.

The fact that Jeanie Buss, stood up for the community publically, seemed to have touched NBA legend Earvin Magic Johnson.

 

 

The three-time NBA MVP wrote to Jeanie on Twitter. He commended her about her thoughts and words. Addressing her by her Twitter ID, Magic wrote,

‘I want to thank you for standing up to racists and the hatred among us! You and your father have always shown respect to people of all races and given so many people of color opportunities with the Lakers.’

Talking about the importance of Jeanie’s father in his life, Magic wrote,

‘I wouldn’t have become the businessman I am today without your father Dr. Jerry Buss mentoring & treating me like a son. Jeanie, you are a special woman & your voice needs to be heard. I respect you & will always love & support you and my  @Lakers! #BlackLivesMatte ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼  @JeanieBuss

The 60-year-old league star was a Lakers’ player, and a short-term president. He has always been supportive of the Lakers franchise, even after he retired. Johnson is now a successful businessman and owns the Magic Johnson Enterprises.
