Mark Cuban Says Sports Will Unite People After the Coronavirus Pandemic

Coronavirus has definitely damaged the basic fabric of our society in every means possible. Colleges, schools, offices and all the sports leagues around the world are close because of this pandemic. After Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert turned positive for coronavirus, NBA also took swift action and suspended the league last week.

However, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban believes that sports can bring people together. Well, he is definitely not wrong about that, because sports is that escape way from our ‘boring and hectic lives’ on normal days of the year. But it seems like ‘no sports’ is the new normal in these scary situations.

It’s obvious that many people who make their livelihood off NBA will face adversity because of the suspended season. Understanding this, Mark Cuban became one of the first owners in NBA who allotted money for employee wages at American Airlines Center.

In retrospect, Mark was right about reading the situation and helping those in need. Also, he recently donated more than $100,000 to area non-profit organizations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mark Cuban hoping for NBA to resume soon

In an interview with CNBC’s Squawk box, Mark said that he was stunned when he heard about the NBA suspension mid-game.

“Hopefully, when the NBA, the NHL, Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball, football, all start to really happen again, we’ll all get excited about our teams and as communities, we’ll come together,” Cuban said.

“Sports will be a vital mechanism for bringing people back together when this happens. And so, yeah, I’m excited for that, but in reality, basketball is the last thing on my mind right now”.

Many NBA players and franchises have come forward to help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic, including Stephen Curry, Kyle Kuzma, Zion Williamson, and Giannis. This is the exact spirit which we need from the people who hold influence and authority in the society. Till then, everyone should maintain social distancing and self-isolation.
