The mind-boggling battle between the Brooklyn Nets and Portland Trail Blazers came to a conclusion with the Nets losing 134-133. Their loss ended the Phoenix Suns 8-0 run for playoffs and led to the Blazers sealing a spot in the play-in series. This is all thanks to Damian Lillard, who gave record-breaking performances for the team this season.

Nobody had any sort of high expectations from the Nets especially with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving missing. In the wake of their absence, the team rallied together in a bid to clinch a 5-0 performance to make it to the seventh seed of the Eastern Conference.

What to expect from the Brooklyn Nets with Kevin Durant?

Kevin Durant signed with the franchise last year in July along with incredible dribbler, Kyrie Irving. Unfortunately for the Nets, Durant ruptured his Achilles in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals. To add to this, Kyrie Irving was also ruled out for the season due to an injured shoulder. Both these players did not enter the bubble because of these injuries.

On the brighter side, they seem ready for a comeback next season. Durant’s injury has not affected the perception of him being one of the most consistent players in the NBA. The Brooklyn Nets really require a game-changing player after some bad seasons. He can play a major role in making the Nets tough contenders next season. Shannon Sharpe feels the same but has a few concerns about Durant’s equation with the other players in the team.

On Undisputed, Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discuss the Nets’ future next season. Shannon says, “They can be special, but I just don’t know how it’s going to work. You’ve got KD and Kyrie that’s going to need the ball. Caris LeVert, we saw what he did but that was out KD, out Kyrie, and out Spencer Dinwiddie.”

Sharpe talks about tendencies of ball hogging that could really be a mess. “Dinwiddie leaves the ball in his hand. We saw when Kyrie went down, he was able to go for 50. But KD and Caris LeVert, they need the ball.” He metaphorically explains how they all look great individually but goes on to say, “I just don’t know how these pieces fit together.”

How have they played so far this season?

The Nets have really outdone themselves in the regular season. Nobody thought that they would be capable of clinching a spot in the playoffs, let alone the seventh seed. Collective contributions of players like Caris LeVert, Garrett Temple, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen, and Joe Harris did not go in vain and have led the team well in spite of their prominent players being absent.

The Brooklyn Nets are playing their first postseason match against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, August 14.
