Duncan Robinson is one of those players that NBA scouts would now watch on television and go, “Damn, this dude had potential!” The 26-YO forward went undrafted in the 2018 draft. It was Miami Heat that later showed some faith in his caliber and signed a 2-way contract.

Duncan did not let his franchise down. He played damaging Basketball against his opponents and showed why he deserved to be drafted in the first place. His 7 threes in Game 5 against the Lakers became the highlight of his career. The NBA Playoffs 2020 came like a dream run for the man, as he delivered the role of a shooting expert for his side. But is he as good as Klay Thompson?

Blazers star Damian Lillard has the answer

And the answer from him is a straight NO! When a Hoop fan wrote on his Twitter wall, “Duncan Robinson is a better catch and shooter than Klay Thompson,” Lillard retweeted it with his personal take. He used a ‘facepalm emoji’ to explain his denial to swallow that claim.

Clearly, Damian Lillard did not buy that comparison. But the figures that D-Bo presented in the regular-season 2019-20 make a strong case. He averaged 13.5 points per game with 47% shooting precision from the field. Moreover, his three-pointer and free-throw accuracy stood tall at 44.6% and 93.1% respectively. These are certainly not the figures from an average player.

Duncan Robinson vs Klay Thompson: Who wins?

Klay Thompson certainly comes with greater experience and hence has faced the test of time. The swingman is effective on both ends of the court. The fact that he was selected in the NBA All-defensive team in 2018-19 alongside fellow teammate Draymond Green speaks volumes.

In the peak of his shooting years, the Splash Brothers member had 48.9%/44%/83.7% in the season 2017-2018. In the 2015-16 season, he made 4.1 threes from the downtown at an average in the NBA post-season. The man had been instrumental in the 5-year successful run of the Golden State Warriors where they lifted three titles.

All this leads to the conclusion that Duncan Robinson will have to show more consistency in the coming time to beat the likes of Klay or other great catch and shoot performers.
