The Toronto Raptors recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of their historic Game 6 win in the 2019 NBA Finals. It marked the franchise’s first championship triumph since its inception in 1995. A well-balanced Raptors team passed the Golden State Warriors test in the finals to make history.

Naturally, after a championship triumph, the team’s members receive diamond-studded rings to commemorate their victory. The design differs every year as per the winning team’s specifications. For the Raptors, it was truly special. Kyle Lowry was a part of the committee overlooking the design of the ring that contained the iconic CN Tower along with the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

“This is the first one in the organization’s history and I think that was one of the things we wanted, to make sure it stands apart from every other ring that’s been done before,” Lowry told The Sports Network last October. “It’s the first team outside of the U.S. to have a ring, to win a championship, so we were like, ‘Listen, we can’t have it be like anyone else. We have to be different.’”

The team hosted a ceremony after a game win to present the rings. For Kawhi, he got it during the Clippers‘ visit to the Scotiabank Arena on December 11. However, one player has still not received the ring, and he feels he might win a new ring with his new team before the Raptors bestow him with the diamond-studded ring.

Danny Green is the only Toronto Raptors player to have not received the championship ring

The days are looking good for Danny Green. His current Lakers team is right at the top of the West. They are one among the clear favorites to win the championship this year. Green signed with the Raptors in the summer of 2018 along with his Spurs teammate Kawhi Leonard

“The plan was to present Green with his ring in a pre-game ceremony when the Lakers came to town on Mar. 24 – it’s a date he had been looking forward to since the schedule was released. However, with the season on hold since Mar. 11 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that game was never played, making Green the only player who hasn’t received his ring,”  Lewenberg wrote.

The Canadian team was generous enough to make an alternate offer, but Green refused. “The Raptors offered to send it to L.A., but Green politely declined. It’s also possible that the two teams meet in a neutral location, if the season resumes in Orlando next month, as planned. But Green’s preference is to hold off until he can receive it in front of the Toronto fans at Scotiabank Arena. He may have to wait a while.”

It is indeed unfortunate news for the 32-year-old who deservingly captured his second career title last year. This is what he feels about the ring not coming to him yet. “If I win this year, I might get that ring before I get the Raptors ring,” Green said.
