Boston Celtics came this far, only to be faced with disappointment. This was their third defeat in the Conference Finals in four years, and you can’t help but think about what they’re doing wrong. They gave up leads during crucial moments and key players performed inconsistently. It’s time they bring bigger changes on board if they want to finish first on top season. Let’s go over three changes the Celtics desperately need to make for next season.

Boston Celtics need a competent big to rely on

The Celtics have been labeled as a very talented team. They are led by their young stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, but also have more support at their disposal with Kemba Walker, Gordon Hayward and Marcus Smart. While some may think that’s more than enough, it’s not really showing on court. Therefore, they still have that one true big man missing.

If they were to face Lakers in the NBA Finals, they would be in big trouble. The Lakers have the dominant Anthony Davis against whom the Celtics have no one. This is exactly where they suffered while playing against Miami Heat‘s Bam Adebayo. The big man is a centerpiece that’s currently missing. However, Myles Turner is rumored to be the perfect trade target for the Celtics.

Lacking veteran players

Undoubtedly, the team doesn’t lack an ounce of talent. However, talented young players are not the only thing that matter. The team is lacking some experience that can come only through veteran players. Veterans have played for years against certain players, something which eventually becomes a big advantage. They know exactly how to operate in a playoff scenario and can handle it when the team’s backs are against the wall. They are least likely to succumb to pressure, which is what the Boston Celtics really need, someone who can guide them during intense minutes of the game.

Solidify their point guard position

Celtics’ fans were surprised when Danny Ainge did not make a trade to solve the team’s biggest problems.  Although Kemba Walker is considered being an asset for the team, he wasn’t very consistent this season. This is where the question for the backup PG comes into the picture. Brad Wanamaker is not cutting it as their backup PG. Thus, entering the off season, this is what they should focus on solving for the next season as well.
