The Los Angeles Lakers have added multiple players this off-season. But Rob Pelinka and the front office had their eyes set on Anthony Davis signing the contract extension. The Brow finally confirmed his stay in the Lakers by signing a 5-year extension.

AD recently had an interview with Spectrum SportsNet after signing his extension. When asked about which signing surprised him the most, Davis said, “I think Dennis surprised me the most just from the fact that I didn’t expect it to happen. You hear rumors and things like that, but you don’t get involved because you don’t know what’s real and what’s not. When I seen that trade going through, I was like ‘wow, we really just got Dennis Schroder’. Somebody that is tough on the defensive end, great offensively, scrappy. Same way we played last year, so he fits right into the mold.”

Davis also thanked the veterans who left the Lakers this off season. He said, “You lose a lot of guys that we wish (would stay) Do, DG, QC, Dwight, JaVale, AB, left with their respective teams, but without those guys we wouldn’t be able to win the championship for sure. But we added some guys to take on their roles, and I think we did really good.”

The champions have already seen what the duo of LeBron and AD can do. Both of them signing contact extensions makes the Lakers an enormous threat for years to come.

Dennis Schroder to start for the Lakers?

Dennis Schroder was one of the best performers for the OKC Thunder last season. He was in the running for the 6th man of the year only to be just beaten by his new teammate Montrezl Harrell.

Schroder averaged 18.9 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 38.5% from the three-point line last season despite starting only two games. These numbers might be enough for a starting role at other teams, but with Lakers that seems farfetched.

LeBron James has already been their main point guard and last season averaged around 10.2 assists per match. Vogel surely will try to keep The King as the primary playmaker.

If Schroder starts as the point guard, either Kentavious Caldwell-Pope or Wesley Matthews would be forced to the bench. Coach Frank Vogel will now have to figure out rotations where his bench doesn’t fall too weak.

The Lakers despite having a small salary cap have upgraded their bench. They are surely the favorites to repeat this season.
