The Pheonix Suns Point Guard Devin Booker is as determined as they come. It has been two years since Booker announced that he was fed up of the fact that the Suns weren’t making the NBA playoffs. He has proved that he isn’t all talk.

Devin Booker: Done with failure

Booker said in an interview with AZ Republic,

“I’m done with not making the playoffs. I’m serious,” Booker said as the Suns conducted their exit interviews following a 21-61 season in April 2018. “This is probably the last year I’m ever not making the playoffs. That’s putting pressure on myself I need. I’m watching these games right now with teams trying to clinch and the playoff atmosphere of those games and those are the games I want to be in.”

There’s was speculation at that time that Booker is so fed up with the Suns’ losing ways he might not sign the five-year, $156 million rookie contract extension Phoenix were likely to offer him that summer. Booker, without making a firm commitment, put those fears to rest.

“Don’t believe in nonsense,” he said. “With TV, they need something to talk about. I’ve always mentioned since my first day here that I fell in love with this city, I fell in love with the fan base and the dedication they showed to the team.

“I always think about turning the franchise around, to get it back how it used to be. I watch the highlights of (Charles) Barkley and (Steve) Nash and how alive the arena was. One of my goals is to get it back that way.”

The 6’6′ guard out of Kentucky was averaging 24.9 points on 44% shooting through the first ten games of the season at that time.

Booker almost delivers

This is Booker’s 5th year in the league and his most successful season with the Suns is a 24 win season.

They won;

23 games in 2016

24 games in 2017

21 games in 2018

19 games in 2019

They got a little better this year. However, they are still 11 games behind the .500 mark and their remaining schedule is the hardest in the league.

“We’re just about trying to win games at this point of the season,” said Booker, who has scored 30 or more points in 10 of his last 13 games. “That’s all that matters right now.”

As noted in the  NBA Power Rankings, the Suns were one victory away from being the first team to match its 2018-19 win total in week 14. With the league’s toughest remaining schedule (cumulative opponent winning percentage: 53.9%), there is no time to waste.
