NBA Trade Rumors: Danilo Gallinari in Demand by a Surprising Contender

Just ahead of the upcoming NBA Deadline, Adrian Wojnarowski of the ESPN reported that a three-way deal is in talks. This trade includes the Miami Heat, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Memphis Grizzles have agreed to trade forward Andre Iguodala to the Miami Heat. Iguodala gave the OK for the deal and also agreed to a two-year, $30 million extension with Miami in the process. The Heat are now looking to add Oklahoma City into the same trade discussions in an effort to land Danilo Gallinari.

Miami, Memphis and Oklahoma City are working on an elaborate three-team deal that would land the Heat both Andre Iguodala and Danilo Gallinari, league sources tell ESPN. Talks are ongoing and could extend into Thursday, sources said.

Wojnarowski reports that the teams are having ongoing discussions on an “elaborate” three-way deal that could extend into Thursday morning. The deal could involve the Heat removing the protections on the pick they already owe to the Thunder. They could possibly give OKC another future first-round pick. We’ll have to wait and see if they’re able to pull off the three-team deal, and what the final product looks like. The Miami Heat just acquired Andre Iguodala from the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies received Justise Winslow in exchange.

The Heat is already second in the NBA in 3-point shooting accuracy at 38.0 per cent. However, they’re just 14th in the league in scoring at 112.3 points per game.
Why the Heat Wants Danilo Gallinari
Gallinari was drafted sixth overall in the 2008 NBA draft by the New York Knicks. He played with the Knicks for two and a half seasons before being traded to the Denver Nuggets in 2011. In 2017, he was acquired by the Clippers. Gallinari joined Oklahoma City Thunder in July 2019

Given Gallinari’s $22.1M pact (and Dragic’s $17.2M deal), the Heat would need to unload a substantial amount of money to make the math work while remaining under the hard cap.

Danilo Gallinari, 31, could add some additional scoring punch, as he’s averaging 19.2 points a game this season. He has a career 38.0 per cent 3-point shooter who’s making 41.0 per cent of his treys this season. He could fit in very well with Miami’s offensive scheme.
