Match preview- Is this the return of Carmelo Anthony?

The Portland Trail Blazers hit the road for a clash with the New Orleans Pelicans.  The Trail Blazers come into the game, having beaten the Spurs 121-116 on Saturday and blown away by the duo of James Harden and Russell Westbrook against Houston Rockets on Monday. The Pelicans game on Tuesday will be their third in a series of six away games, with games at Milwaukee, Cleveland and Chicago to go after that. The Trail Blazer have a 5-8 record so far in the season.

As for the Pelicans, they will be coming into Monday’s game after a 108-100 win against the Warriors. The major concern for the Pelicans coming into the game, will be the ever mounting injury concerns.

The biggest talking point of the game however, will be the possible return of Carmelo Anthony. The Trail Blazers have signed the 35-year old, who was a free agent until recently, after a failed stint with the Rockets last season. Fans and well wishers will be hoping Anthony will rejuvenate his career and end it on a high note.

The Pelicans injury list does not look very good for them. Zion Williamson and Darius Miller are already out. The injury report last time included the likes of Frank Jackson, Derrick Favors, Brandon IngramLonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and Jahlil Okafor- none of which are yet confirmed to return. The injuries also means a window of opportunity to youngsters like  Jaxson Hayes, Kenrich Williams, Josh Gray and Zylan Cheatham.

As for the Trail Blazers, Carmelo Anthony, who was listed as day-to-day has a good chance of making a debut for them, even if with limited game time. Paul Gasol is another one who did not feature in the Rockets game and he might still have to wait a little longer before he gets back into the action- although there is no official report yet.

Predictions-

It should be a close contest between the two teams with each coming into the game with a similar record. But the Trail Blazers might eventually manage to get past an injury hit Pelicans side.
