New York Knicks seem to be looking to bring in Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul. Reports suggest that people in the Knicks organization believe he can bring the winning culture back to the team.
“I think there are still people with the Knicks who feel that bringing Chris Paul onto this roster at this time would jumpstart the franchise’s effort to build a winning culture, to give these young players winning habits,” SNY’s Ian Begley said. He also noted that New York’s new team president Leon Rose is Paul’s former agent.
In 2017, Leon Rose worked closely with Scott Perry on the Carmelo Anthony trade to OKC; Rose had leaned on Perry since taking over as NYK president. So Perry’s one-year deal to be GM under Rose doesn’t mean he’s just a short-term bridge to another GM: pic.twitter.com/UpcYGA8MiH

Paul joined Oklahoma City Thunder only last summer. A sensational trade deal with the Houston Rockets saw Russell Westbrook move to Houston. Paul, in his 15-year NBA career, has established himself as one of the best guards in the league. He started his career in 2005 when New Orleans Hornets (now New Orleans Pelicans) selected him with the fourth overall pick in the Draft. He rose as a leader of the pack, making the Hornets one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

When he moved to Oklahoma City Thunder last summer, very few believed the team had a chance to make it to the playoffs. However, Paul proved naysayers wrong once again. Prior to the league’s suspension, Oklahoma City were fifth in the Western Conference with a win-loss record of 40-24. Paul has averaged 17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game this season.
The Knicks’ intention behind signing Paul, even though he will be 35 soon, is that he could have a similar impact on their team which is currently struggling.
