The New York Knicks is one of the few NBA teams that have stayed in the lower ranks for most part of this decade. They apparently have tried everything in their powers to move up the order. They had Carmelo Anthony, one of the best scorers in the game. They acquired Derrick Rose who’s nowhere near his former self but still is a pretty good player. They drafted Kristaps Porzingis who’s clearly a future NBA superstar and yet despite all of this they’re 12th in the east with the 5th worst record in the NBA.

But there’s good news finally. The Knicks have reportedly agreed to trading Carmelo this off-season. Derrick Rose also has voiced out that he wants to win and he’s ready to take a pay cut. Porzingis has been developing his game phenomenally.

Talent was never an issue for the New York Knicks. The reason for them losing so many games is their system. Former Knicks player Brandon Jennings, who now plays for the Washington Wizards as a backup point guard, said that the Knicks do not play as a unit. According to him, their ball movement was slow and poor and that they only played triangle offence which clearly didn’t work.

The next season might be a breath of fresh air for New York Knicks fans. They might finally get to see Porzingis occupy the centre stage and a team built around him. Knicks also need to fire head coach Jeff Hornacek and need to sign a coach who believes in teamwork and unselfishness. There is no place for selfishness in New York right now. They need to sign role players. They need to increase their bench production. Once Carmelo is gone, a lot of cap space will be freed up which should be put to use.
