The Sunday night matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Green Bay Packers proved to be costly for the defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Not only because the Rams lost to the Packers 36-28, but because he was fined $10,300 for unnecessary roughness. According to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, Aaron Donald was needlessly rough with the Packers guard Lucas Patrick.

For the Packers guard, being choked by Donald must undoubtedly be an unpleasant experience as he is known for his strength and physicality. However, the choking had little to no effect on Patrick. The Packers, in the end, took over the bigger picture by handing the Rams their third consecutive loss.

Why was imposing a fine on Aaron Donald absurd?

Although the league’s decision to fine Donald was undoubtedly the right one, it also highlights their absurdities in enforcing the rules. As, during the play, no one called it out even though the official was standing in the vicinity.

Furthermore, the NFL defines a variety of behaviors as unsportsmanlike conduct, but they all receive the same fine (for first-time infractions). As a result, they sometimes punish celebrations the same amount as intentionally strangling an opponent.

It has been a terrible run for the Rams after signing two beast athletes- wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr and linebacker Von Miller. The franchise is in desperate need of a win. They have to get back on track in full swing to dominate the NFC West race, which currently is led by the Arizona Cardinals (9-2).
