AFC’s No. 1 seeded team, Tennessee Titans, who were in talks with Mayor John Cooper’s administration, for the renovation of the Nissan Stadium for the past few weeks, are now exploring the possibilities for a brand new stadium in the city of Nashville.

According to Axios, the shift in the plans for the Titans came after the renovation costs skyrocketed, and investing more money for a new complex seems to be a better long-term financial approach. According to the Tennessean, the cost of renovation of the 23-year-old Nissan Stadium stood around $600 million. However, as per Axios, the actual cost was nearly double that price.

“The stadium’s structural frame was built with concrete and needs to be largely replaced with steel,” a Titans spokesperson told Axios. “The mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems need to be completely replaced. The window system throughout the building is so antiquated that it is not even manufactured anymore.”

Since the cost to upgrade the Nissan Stadium has gone way beyond expectations, the Titans are evaluating the pros and cons of a new stadium before committing to the project. If they decide to go with it, then the new complex would be the centerpiece to embellish the riverfront in East Nashville.

What a new stadium would bring to the city of Nashville?

A new stadium in the city of Nashville would simply glorify their stance in the sport. It would open doors for Tennessee to host the Super Bowl in the future, along with the NCAA final 4, the world cup and not to mention the winter concerts. This would improve the city’s overall tax gain while simultaneously increasing stadium expenditures.

“We won’t settle for anything but the best-case scenario for Nashville,” Cooper reassured. The Titans and Mayor will come up with a forward-looking plan and the city of Nashville awaits that day.

Although it is still unclear about the decisions, but a new stadium might energize the city with lifted football spirits.
