The Jerry Jones-owned Dallas Cowboys started their 2020 NFL campaign with a twinkle in their eye and some renewed optimism under new Head Coach Mike McCarthy. They managed to hold on to their prized asset, Dak Prescott, for another season (at least) and brought in some promising rookies (CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs) in the offseason.

However, 9 weeks into the regular season and it is clear that things have gone awfully wrong for ‘America’s Team.’

Dak Prescott’s season-ending injury in Week 5 against the New York Giants signaled the beginning of the end for Ezekiel Elliott and the rest of the Cowboys. They remain winless in their last 4 outings in the league with a 2-7 record heading into Week 10.

Despite all these setbacks, Dallas Cowboys VP Stephen Jones remains optimistic about his team’s future prospects.

Dallas Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones refused to entertain any Dak Prescott trade rumors while appearing in a recent interview. The NFC East franchise had Prescott on a franchise tag worth $31.4 million before he got injured.

He’s in line for a long-term contract extension next year. However, Dak’s injury setback will certainly make things complicated as far as extension talks are concerned.

“Dak’s our quarterback. We’re so fired up about him and him leading us into the future,” Jones told The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

“This is a four-month injury, barring setbacks and so far if anything, everything that we’re getting from [associate trainer and director of rehabilitation] Britt [Brown] and the doctors is that he’s ahead of schedule.

“So yes, he’s been able to avoid any setbacks, and if anything, he’s ahead of schedule, which shouldn’t be surprising the way he goes after any challenge.

“It’s full speed ahead with Dak, and he’s done a great job at this point,” Jones further said via Pro Football Talk.

Prescott was undoubtedly a Top-5 quarterback before his injury. He was leading the charts in multiple categories despite the Cowboys’ failure to win games in 2020.

Coach McCarthy and Jerry Jones are well aware that they have a generational talent on their roster. The question is, can they keep him in Texas for the foreseeable future?
