Brian Flores Finds Solace in Pittsburgh Steelers as He Joins Mike Tomlin’s Staff

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed Brian Flores as their new senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach. The team announced the hiring of the former Miami Dolphins head coach on Saturday.

The ex-Dolphins head coach has over 14 years of coaching experience in the league, and the Steelers have hired him to join head coach Tomlin’s coaching staff. Moreover, the hiring comes just a few weeks after Flores called for a lengthy battle against the NFL and three other teams.

Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin said, “I am excited about Brian Flores joining our coaching staff given his history of developing and teaching defensive players during his time in the NFL. Brian’s resume speaks for itself, and I look forward to him adding his expertise to help our team.”

The Patriots’ Brian Flores

During the Super Bowl victory season, Flores joined the New England Patriots in 2004. Eventually, his inclusion led to him joining Belichick’s coaching staff as a special team’s assistant coach in 2008.

Since then, Flores went on to climb a notch higher each season with the Patriots. In 2019, however, after serving as an assistant coach for 15 years, he left the Patriots. Nevertheless, Flores won four Super Bowls during his tenure with the New England Patriots.

Flores joins Miami as head coach

The Miami Dolphins hired Flores as their head coach in 2019. The Dolphins’ first season under Flores was a disappointment as they compiled a 5-11 record. Nevertheless, Flores Dolphins showed tremendous improvement in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

The Dolphins finished the 2020 season with a 10-6 record, followed by the 2021 season with a 9-8 record. Unfortunately, they could not qualify for the postseason in any of the seasons with Flores. As a result, In January 2022, the Dolphins fired Flores after three seasons, even though he had two years left on his contract.

Brian Flores has established a reputation as an outstanding coach throughout his career in the league. Although he was unable to make miracles happen for the Dolphins, his contribution was significant. Henceforth, when Brain Flores became available, the Pittsburgh Steelers grabbed him right away.
