Carson Wentz Pens His Goodbye Letter to Philadelphia Eagles

Life in the NFL has been a bit of a rollercoaster for former 2016 #2 overall pick Carson Wentz. Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles as their quarterback for the future, Wentz showed much promise early on in his career.

In fact his performances in the 2017 campaign made him a genuine MVP shout. His team eventually won the Super Bowl that season, but Wentz had to sit out the Playoffs with a season-ending ACL injury.

In 2018, Wentz returned with much optimism. He played well, the Eagles yet again made the Playoffs, but again Wentz sat out the Playoffs with a stress fracture in his back.

2019 was more of the same as the quarterback yet again helped his team mount a run to the Playoffs but had to be escorted off the field during their first playoff game with a concussion.

2020, and finally the Carson Wentz bubble burst. The quarterback had by far the worst year of his career. Being sacked 50 times and throwing 15 interceptions in the process, Wentz was benched for rookie QB Jalen Hurts.

And for Wentz, it was simply a move too far. An MVP caliber quarterback, Wentz looked to switch to a new franchise for a fresh start. Something he has now gotten thanks to a trade to the Indianapolis Colts.

Looking to make a fresh start, Wentz made sure to thank the city of Philadelphia for providing him the chance to make it big in the NFL.

Carson Wentz pens a letter to bid adieu

Following his trade to the Colts, Wentz on Friday posted a message on Instagram, saying goodbye to Philly fans and his teammates.

“What a journey… More than anything, I will miss my teammates. Thank you. I appreciate every one of you and will never forget the relationships and memories made over the years,” wrote Wentz.

“To the City of Philadelphia — Thank you. You have been my home for the past five years. It has been everything a kid from Bismarck, North Dakota could have dreamed of.

“We brought the Lombardi trophy home to Philly and hopefully brought a lot of joy to the city. Thank you to the amazing Eagles fans across the World that have supported my family.

“Our foundation, and our football team through all of the wins and losses. It was an honor to play in a city whose passion and love for their football team is unrivaled,” he said, addressing the fans.

As for the new chapter that awaits at Indy, Wentz said that he looks forward to the new challenges that await him.

“As one chapter closes, another one begins… I’m excited to join the Indianapolis Colts and look forward to the work ahead! God’s plan!” he added.

With the Colts looking for a quarterback for the future, the franchise will hope that Wentz is the man to take them to next level.
