Patrick Mahomes is a multi-talented athlete who ventured to his greatness in the pro-football league. It turns out the Chiefs quarterback was not just a footballer, he was a great Baseball pitcher too. The 26-year-old was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. It was a wise choice made by Mahomes to pursue his career on the gridiron instead of on a baseball diamond.

His inspiration to take up the sport was inherited from his father, Pat Mahomes. Mahomes Sr. played for 11 seasons in the MLB with teams like the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Minnesota Twins. Growing up, junior Mahomes fancied taking up the sport seriously and played games at the primary, high school, and university levels.

“Patrick was always out there, that was what he wanted to,” Mahomes Sr. told NFL Network. “He wanted to get there early, go down there and hit with A-Rod, he wanted to go out and shag balls with the team, take his batting practice with the team and then go to the nursery,” he added.

Among all the games like Basketball, football, and Baseball, Mahomes loved lofting the bat and smashing some hard knocks for the senior high school team. According to the reports, he registered 94-95mph as the fastest ball and threw a 16-strikeout no-hitter during his time at college.

Not just Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady was a star pitcher too

The veteran quarterback Tom Brady has many skills attached to his fame. He is an avid golfer, a great pitcher, and a proven pro-football superstar. Just like Mahomes, Brady was also selected in the MLB draft of 1995 by the Montreal Expos.

Interestingly, that was the same year Patrick Mahomes was born, and 18 years down the line, this youngster traveled the same path Brady once walked.
