When Colin Kaepernick started protesting against police brutality and other social issues, many people criticized him. They believed that he should stick to football, rather than indulging in these things.

On the other hand, Kap’s efforts inspired many athletes. He gave them a vision that the athletes could use this stage to highlight the issues around their nation. One of the athletes that got inspired by Kaepernick was US soccer star Megan Rapinoe.

Megan Rapinoe recently revealed the Presidential Medal of Freedom. On receiving it she said, “Colin Kaepernick, you’re so brave, and you gave us all the path to use our voice.” Rapinoe was “totally overwhelmed and completely honored” to receive the award.

Similar to Megan Rapinoe, Colin Kaepernick provided the stage for many athletes in the United States of America. They have been highlighting the issues faced by people on a regular basis, and with their voices, they are able to bring about changes.

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t been a part of the NFL since 2017. During his time in the league, he played for the San Francisco 49ers and led them to a Super Bowl appearance. He was the starting quarterback of the 49ers for a good amount of time. However, since he became a free agent in 2017, no team has signed him up yet.

This is due to various reasons. His protests were gaining a lot of attention and he received a fair share of backlash. As a result, teams avoided engaging in it. Moreover, his performance on the field was also degrading. Kap lost the starting QB role for the 49ers and was benched before the protests.
