Dallas Cowboys Legend Shares The Wild Story Of Controlling His NFL Draft and Rejecting the Packers: “I’m not leaving Florida for Green Bay.”

When you bring up the legacy of the Dallas Cowboys, Michael Irvin is one such name to remember. While in Dallas, he not only put up impressive numbers but also assisted the Cowboys to clinch 3 Super Bowls. He could have developed into a terrific receiver for another crew. Irvin did not let that eventuate, and he essentially vetoed being drafted in Green Bay.

Dallas Cowboys have tasted a slew of success since Jerry Jones took over the franchise. With the wonder party of Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith, the franchise had a fabulous time in the 90s. As of now, America’s team has tasted no Super Bowl success, but the future might be in their favor.

Michael Irvin appeared on the Flagrant 2 comedy podcast with hosts Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh. Irvin discusses Mike Tyson’s parties, the family advice he received from OJ Simpson, and other topics. He also discusses how he purely governed his draft and turned down an offer to join the Green Bay Packers.

Irvin mentions, “Back then, you had to graduate early to leave and go to school early. So I graduated after my junior year of eligibility and went to the draft. That’s how I controlled my draft. When Green Bay called with the 7th pick, Green Bay like Michael, ‘Uh, we’re going to draft a receiver right here, and we’re thinking about,’ No way, Green Bay really don’t do it, buddy, don’t do it. I’m not leaving Florida for Green Bay.”

In another interview, WR Irvin stated he disliked Wisconsin because of the icy climate. His entire household went ‘No Way Green Bay,’ and the rest is history.

Further in the Flagrant 2 Podcast, Michael Irvin reveals his location choices after he refused the Green Bay Packers. The WR was adamantly clear in his choices, and they have been some of the greatest franchises in the legacy of the NFL. Irvin narrows down to three choices; Dallas, Los Angeles, and New York.

With his controlling ability in the draft, Michael Irvin would’ve probably wound up in any of the three locations. In the podcast, Irvin also discloses that his dad was a big Cowboys fan. Furthermore, Jimmy Johnson, who mentored Irvin led the Cowboys to back-to-back Super Bowl victories. The WR appears to be grateful that he ended up in Dallas rather than Green Bay.
