If not the Super Bowl titles, the Dallas Cowboys are leaders in terms of penalties. In the past several years, the team has been struggling with on-field mistakes and foul plays that cost them yardages. Hall of Famer and Cowboys legend Michael Irvin believes that if the team cleans up its penalty mess, then it can replicate the Miami Dolphins of 1972.
Although it is a far-fetched claim, Irvin is a firm believer and encourages the Mike McCarthy-led side to perform better.

For the newcomers, the Miami Dolphins is the only team in history to have undergone a perfect NFL season in 1972. They were undisputed and eventually went on to win the Super Bowl title. It is certainly hard to imagine how formidable the squad must have been. In the current scenario, the level of playing the sport has drastically changed, and replicating a similar streak of wins is highly improbable.
But Irvin believes that the Cowboys can strive to become one of the teams to achieve a similar feat. While speaking on First Take, the former wide receiver said, “If the Dallas Cowboys clean up these penalties, they will be chasing the (undefeated) 1972 Miami Dolphins. When you got the No. 1 offense, clean up these penalties, they will be chasing the 1972 Dolphins. Did I say something crazy?”
