Miami Dolphins were one of the worst-performing teams in the NFL last year. They ended their first full season under Brian Flores with a 5-11 record. Of course, the Dolphins were accused of purposely tanking their season in order to get a better draft position in 2020. They also traded out star players such as picks Laremy Tunsil, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Kenyan Drake, and Ryan Tannehill last year.

It could be argued that they went through all that trouble in order to land a rising start in this year’s draft. It’s safe to say that the Dolphins achieved exactly what they were hoping for by drafting Alabama State’s Tua Tagovailoa as the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

NFL veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick heaps praise on Tua Tagovailoa

37-year old Ryan Fitzpatrick served as quarterback for the Dolphins last season. With Tagovailoa in the shadows, it’s fair to say that Fitzpatrick knows his role in the team heading into the 2020 season. Here’s what the former Harvard College graduate had to say about his new teammate.

“He’s a really interesting guy. He’s got a lot of energy to him. You can tell guys are going to gravitate to him. There’s just something about him that’s just very likable. I can already tell he’s one of those guys who will get along with everybody,” Fitzpatrick told The Palm Beach Post’s Hal Habib.

“I know I am the placeholder. Whenever Tua gets his chance, I’m going to be his biggest cheerleader.”

“I have a unique perspective just from the career that I’ve had. I was excited they drafted him. Since meeting him in person the other day, I’m really excited. We’ve hit it off. I am an old geezer, but we’ve meshed personality-wise, and I’m excited to work with him,” Fitzpatrick further added via NFL’s official website.
