The opportunity to learn from one of the best in Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not something every NFL QB can brag about in their career. Among the few lucky players is QB Kurt Benkert, who will depart this offseason after spending last season as the 3rd choice QB. The franchise cut Benkert from their QB room and trims their overall depth to just 3 QBs with Rodgers, Jordan Love, and Danny Etling.

After signing with the Packers last May, Benkert spent the entire 2021 season on the Packers’ practice squad while not getting a chance to start. The decision to cut the 3rd choice QB comes following the conclusion of the team’s off-season workout program.

Despite his release, Benkert took to Twitter to thank Packers fans for their humbling support while sharing his excitement for the next stop.

Benkert was an undrafted free agent in 2018 before spending 3 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. During his stay in Green Bay last season, Benkert had his golden opportunity to make the gameday roster after Love was put on the COVID list. While he never started the game, after Rodgers’ request, he closed out the game by taking a few knees against the Chicago Bears.

The release opens a valuable spot for the franchise, which will look to strengthen one of the much-needed positions with depth. The WR room for the Packers is looking weak following the departure of Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes- Scantling this offseason. While they have some young WRs like Christian Watson, Amari Rodgers, and Juwan Winfree, the signing of Sammy Watkins looks promising.

Among other areas of concern for the Packers will be players in the outside linebacker and cornerback positions, which have weak backup players.
